Our Story

Hi! I'm Amy, the founder and creator of Dust & Salt Design. 

I handcraft bespoke lampshades using beautiful fabrics and trims. I source fabric from everywhere I go and actually find it very difficult to walk past a fabric store (just ask my husband!). Supporting Australian designers and makers is extremely important to me and of course we have some of the best in the world. So Australian made fabrics and trims feature significantly in my work.

I love all things colour! I always have, in all areas of life. In my home, my garden, fashion and of course homewares. I hope that my lampshades will brighten up your home and bring happiness to your space. A pop of colour is an instant mood lifter, guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.

Dust & Salt Design takes its name from my two lives. I grew up on the land in the far western Riverina, a beautiful region of rural New South Wales, Australia, and I'm currently living in a small picturesque village on the NSW South Coast. The two elements of dust and salt are so integral to my life, and in turn, the colour and texture of my designs - the inland and the ocean landscapes that are home to me.

I have always been a perfectionist and put so much care into hand crafting every lampshade that leaves my little workroom. The joy of the finished product never gets old.

The concept for Dust & Salt Design first began when I was unable to find new lampshades that I really loved for our home. I had old lamp bases to which I wanted to give a new lease of life. In the home and in all things aesthetic, I love bringing together the old and the new. In the blending of the two I find such beauty and meaning. Together they create pieces that are truly bespoke and personal rather than based on trends. My aim is to create with love, warmth and style, and to ensure that your unique lampshade becomes a loved and treasured part of your home.
